ADRA supports people in Cao Bang to rebuild their lives after typhoon Yagi

Typhoon Yagi and the post-typhoon circulation had a wide range of influence from the North to Thanh Hoa province (26 provinces and cities), causing very heavy rain and flooding. After passing by Cao Bang, it caused huge damage and serious flood and landslide in Bao Lac District of Cao Bang Province (one of the most damaged districts).

November 7, 2024 ADRA provided cash assistance to 156 households in Co Ba and Phan Thanh communes, Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province to help them overcome the consequences of floods after Typhoon Yagi. The storm and flood have passed, but the consequences are still very severe and it will take a long time for people to return to their normal lives as before the disaster. This support will help people pay for living expenses, repair houses and restore their livelihoods.

Four households whose houses were completely collapsed or severely damaged were forced to relocate to new housing. The cost of rebuilding their houses was partially supported by the local government and ADRA provided an additional VND20 million per household. One case of four orphans living with their grandfather in particularly difficult circumstances received VND11 million.

The total amount of money ADRA has supported is 619,500,000 VND, sponsored by the ADRA network and individuals in the USA, New Zealand, Korea and Japan.

Impact Story:

The man with a haggard appearance told us the story of his family. Originally there were 7 people in the family, he lived with his son, his daughter-in-law and 4 grandchildren. For unknown reasons, both his daughter-in-law and son committed suicide by eating poison leaves just one month before Typhoon Yagi hit. It is impossible to imagine the pain and hardship that this 57-year-old man had to go through in such a short time. The typhoon passed, leaving him with the worry of how to feed his grandchildren and whether they could continue to go to school. There was a proposal from the government advising him to send his grandchildren to a social protection center, but how could he separate himself from his grandchildren? He tried to maintain the life of 5 people day by day thanks to the kindness of benefactors.

The day he received the support money from ADRA, he and his grandchildren were overjoyed. He used the money to buy meat and fish for the children and a tank to store clean water. He hopes to be able to raise his grandchildren until they finish grade 12, to have money to buy a couple of cows to make a living, and most of all, he hopes to have the good health to take care of his grandchildren.
