A child’s story

I was born into a poor family. My father was a construction worker, my mother worked in the fields, and my grandfather was disabled, which added even more burden to my father and mother. With a desire to study, since primary school I have tried my best to study well to get the best results possible, but I have not yet achieved the results I wanted. Since my younger sister also goes to school, the cost for us both is quite high compared to our family’s situation.  Also, I could not spend all my time studying because I had to help my parents with work like cooking, feeding the chickens, etc. after school

In 2019, my family joined a Community Development Club in my neighborhood that was part of a project implemented by ADRA. I was happy to receive a scholarship from a Korean sponsor, which helped me and my parents. Since receiving the ADRA scholarship, I have had enough money to buy school supplies and clothes, which has given me more motivation to study better. During my four years of secondary school at Co Ba Boarding Secondary School, I was an excellent student, in addition to being an exemplary team member and a drummer of the school. In my mind, I always think about the future, wanting to become a teacher in the highlands to bring knowledge to children in remote areas.

Being an active, open-minded girl and being supported by teachers, I participated in extracurricular activities organized by the school such as school-level and district-level athletics competitions, school-level and district-level champion competitions. Because of my eagerness to learn and dynamism, I am always loved by my teachers and friends.

Hoang Thi Linh is one of hundreds of students in the Child Sponsorship Program (CSP) funded by ADRA Korea. When asked about her plan, she shared, “First, I will try to study well to achieve the best results in my studies, and at the same time, I will balance between studying and helping my parents. I hope time can pass quickly so that I can graduate soon and go to work to reduce the burden on my parents”.
